Three Cardinals and eight bishops with Juventutem


Cardinal Francis George

His Eminence Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop of Chicago and Vice-President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, will address the Juventutem delegation in Cologne and will lead them in praying the Holy Rosary. A Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate for almost 50 years, His Eminence was given various important responsabilities in the Vatican and later on as a diocesan bishop as well. Several Indult Masses are available in the Archdiocese of Chicago.



Cardinal Francis Arinze

His Eminence Cardinal Francis Arinze is the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. A Nigerian, he will address the Juventutem youth and will preside at Vespers and Benediction of the Holy Sacrament.



Cardinal George Pell

His Eminence Cardinal George Pell is the Archbishop of Sydney, Australia. There he has allowed a (FSSP) house of formation for traditional seminarians to start. He will meet with the Juventutem youth in Cologne and will celebrate traditional Vespers and Benediction.



Archbishop Jean-Pierre Ricard

His Grace Jean-Pierre Ricard, Archbishop of Bordeaux, President of the French Episcopal Conference and a member of the Pontifical Ecclesia Dei Commission will meet with the youth from Juventutem in Cologne at the occasion of Vespers.
Archbishop Ricard knows the Ecclesia Dei communities well and has already ordained priests in the traditional Roman rite.



Bishop Fernando Arêas Rifan

"Dear friends from Juventutem, I am pleased to accompany you to WYD 2005 in Germany. I approve of your initiative to organise for the first time a traditional delegation to WYD as an answer to the Holy Father's invitation. I will be with you from 10 to 21 August 2005 in Bavaria and in Cologne and I pray the Lord that Juventutem may bear abundant fruit."

On 28 June 2002 Pope John Paul II has appointed Bishop Rifan as Superior of the St John Mary Vianney Apostolic Administration with permission to use the traditional rite exclusively. Bishop Rifan was consecrated a bishop in the traditional rite by Prefect of the Congregation for Clergy Cardinal Castrillon-Hoyos, on 18 August 2002.


Bishop George Alencherry

Bishop George Alencherry, of Thuckalay, India (Kerala), will accompany Juventutem from 10 to 17 August 2005 in Bavaria and in Cologne. He has studied theology in Europe and speaks several languages. Of Syro-Malabarese Rite, he appreciates the Traditional Roman Rite and the Ecclesia Dei communities he has met on various occasions, for instance at the 2001 Traditional Pilgrimage of Pentecost to Chartres. He will give a conference on Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta whom he knew.


Archbishop Wolfgang Haas

Archbishop Wolfgang Haas of Vaduz, Liechtenstein, has ordained many candidates from the Ecclesia Dei communities. He will come from his neighbouring archdiocese to offer a pontifical High Mass in Bavaria. He will later on visit us in Cologne where he will be leading a group of pilgrims from his own diocese.



Archbishop Georg Eder

Archbishop Georg Eder, Emeritus from Salzburg (Austria). He has established the Fraternity of Saint Peter in the city of Mozart. His courage for the defense of the Faith made him famous in Austria. On 10 August 2005 he will celebrate a pontifical High Mass in the abbey Ottobeuren for the opening of our Bavarian festival. Attached to the archepiscopal see of Salzburg are the titles of "Pontifical Legate" and of "Primate of Germany".



Bishop André-Mutien Léonard

Bishop André-Mutien Léonard of Namur (Belgium). His three other brothers are priests. He used to be the President of the Saint Paul Seminary in Louvain. A philosopher and a theologian, he relates well to the youth as well. He is very concerned with promoting vocations to the priesthood. He will meet with the youth from Juventutem in Cologne.



Archbishop Raymond Burke

His Excellency Raymond Burke, Archbishop of Saint-Louis (USA) will meet in Cologne with the Juventutem youth.


Bishop Czeslaw Kozon

Bishop Czeslaw Kozon of Copenhague, Denmark, will meet with the youth from Juventutem in Cologne. Bishop Kozon speaks several languages and is used to speaking to various audiences as his diocese is made of several Catholic ethnic minorities.
